A poem by the poet Staring

The poet and estate owner A.C.W. Staring (1767-1840). The 'countryman' Staring had an eye for nature and the way he operated the estate was very special for that time. In the vicinity of Almen he worked on improving the 'drainage' of the agricultural lands. That his pursuit of modernization was not always appreciated, he expressed in his poem 'De Hoofdige Boer' (heady = stubborn). Just outside the village, at the bridge sung in the poem, is this sign with four lines from the poem.
