Rijckholt Castle is located just south of Maastricht in an edge of the Heuvelland in a park-like environment. The oldest owner of Rijckholt Castle dates back to 1043. The oldest part of the castle is the tower. It was built in the fourteenth century. In 1489, the fortified tower with its two-metre-thick walls was destroyed, but immediately rebuilt, probably on the remains from the fourteenth century.
In the historical archives, the oldest owners of the castle are mentioned. These include Herman van Gronsveld (1043), Winand van Rijckholt (1148) and Herman van Lynden (1596). The building now has a catering function.
