Tarmow se encuentra en el borde del pequeño país de Bellin, al sur del Rhinluchs. En el límite occidental del pueblo pasa la carretera estatal L 16; un kilómetro al oeste se encuentra la A 24.
En el año 1294, Tarmow fue mencionado por primera vez como Terme en un documento. Durante casi trescientos años estuvo en posesión de los obispos de Havelberg. Luego pasó a la oficina de Fehrbellin. El núcleo histórico del pueblo se encuentra alrededor de la calle del pueblo.
