Tarmow ligt aan de rand van het Ländchen Bellin, ten zuiden van het Rhinluchs. Aan de westelijke rand van het dorp loopt de provinciale weg L 16; een kilometer naar het westen ligt de A 24.
In 1294 werd Tarmow voor het eerst genoemd als Terme in een oorkonde. Bijna driehonderd jaar was het in bezit van de bisschoppen van Havelberg. Daarna kwam het in handen van het ambt Fehrbellin. Het historische dorpscentrum ligt rondom de dorpsstraat.
