Tarmow est situé à la lisière de la région de Bellin, au sud de la Rhinluch. La route nationale L 16 passe devant l’extrémité ouest du village ; à un kilomètre à l’ouest passe l’A 24.
En 1294, Tarmov a été mentionné pour la première fois comme un terme dans un document. Pendant près de trois cents ans, il a appartenu aux évêques de Havelberg. Il passa ensuite à l’Amt de Fehrbellin. Le centre-ville historique est situé autour de la rue du village.
