La première église fut construite au XIe siècle , sur un emplacement où existait un lieu de culte chrétien depuis le IVe siècle .
L'église est dédiée à Saint Michel, l'archange protecteur des chrétiens. L'église actuelle a été construite au XIIe siècle, dans le style roman. Elle se compose d'une nef, d'un transept et d'un chœur.
En 1863, l'abbé Auguste Cazin eut l'idée de construire l'église Saint-Michel sur un terrain qu'il avait acheté. La première pierre fut posée en août 1867, d'après les plans de l'architecte boulonnais Bouloch. L'église fut bénie le 29 septembre 1868 et consacrée le 17 août 1876. Le Jeudi Saint 1892, un incendie détruisit le mobilier et endommagea l'église. L'architecte hesdennais Clovis Normand supervisa les travaux de restauration. Le nouvel édifice fut consacré le 16 octobre 1892. Le clocher fut construit en 1955 d'après les plans de l'architecte boulonnais Dujardin.
