Le bâtiment situé au 12-16 rue Keizer, construit en 1896-1897 selon les plans de l'architecte J. de Quack dans un style architectural transitoire avec des caractéristiques de néogothique et d'art nouveau, était l'un des plus de 50 points de distribution de lait à La Haye et Scheveningen.
Lorsque l'approvisionnement en lait frais est devenu problématique à cause de la croissance de la ville, un groupe de citoyens engagés de La Haye a fondé en 1879 l'usine laitière "'s-Gravenhaagsche Melkinrichting De Sierkan". Le lait de l'usine (qui a par la suite été multipliée) était transporté à l'aide de chariots tractés par des chevaux vers un réseau de points de distribution en expansion constante.
La Sierkan a existé pendant plus d'un siècle jusqu'à son acquisition par la Coopérative de Laiterie Melkunie en 1986.
