Kranenburg est un petit village dans la commune de Bronckhorst, sur la route entre Vorden et Ruurlo, dans la province néerlandaise de Gelderland. Kranenburg fait partie de l'Achterhoek et compte un peu plus de 200 habitants.
Jusqu'à la fin du Moyen Âge, cette partie de l'Achterhoek était une zone marécageuse. On cherchait les parties sèches situées en altitude pour s'y installer. Ces établissements étaient souvent nommés d'après les espèces animales rencontrées sur ces "monts". Sur une colline légèrement au sud de l'actuel Kranenburg, des grues faisaient leur nid. C'est pour cette raison que la ferme qui a été fondée ici s'appelait "De Kranenbarg".
