Nel castello del "Tolle Bombergs", un barone stravagante noto in Westfalia nel XIX secolo, nel 1945 inizialmente fu alloggiato un dormitorio studentesco dell'Università di Münster, in seguito il famoso prof. Konrad Lorenz, noto per la sua ricerca sulle oche grigie, diresse qui una filiale della Società Max Planck.
Nell'anno 1958, il consigliere scolastico Edmund Ballhaus vi istituì un collegio per ragazzi e ragazze insieme a una scuola secondaria e successivamente a un liceo.
Nel 1968, il liceo ottenne il riconoscimento statale. Nel 1971 seguì la creazione di un ulteriore "liceo di base". I due licei si svilupparono in modo eccellente.
