L'arsenale fu costruito nel 1518 ed è composto da tre edifici. Originariamente chiamato Zeughaus, fu ribattezzato Saint-Hilaire solo nel 1785, quando il comandante dell'artiglieria della città, Marc Gaspard Capriol de Saint-Hilaire, apportò delle modifiche. L'arsenale ospitava diverse migliaia di strumenti dei pionieri, piombo, catrame e munizioni. L'imponente struttura del tetto con tre livelli di soffitte coperte da pavimenti in piastrelle testimonia la funzione di deposito dell'edificio.
