In het bekende lied van Johan Verminnen is de ‘Rue des Bouchers’ een volkse straat waar kunstenaars en studenten elkaar treffen bij een goed glas. De laatste decennia staat de straat vooral bekend als toeristenval waar je beter niet komt om lekker te eten. De Stad Brussel trad in 2016 streng op: terrassen en luifels verdwenen (om de doorgang van de brandweer te garanderen) en de uitbaters mochten voorbijgangers niet meer aanklampen. De restauranthouders voorspelden de ondergang van de buurt. Ook de heraanleg van de straat (2018) en de covid-lockdown (2020) brachten enkele zaken in moeilijkheden. Tegenwoordig lijkt alles weer ‘business as usual’, hoewel er ook nog heel wat leegstand is.
Volg de Beenhouwersstraat en neem de eerste straat links, de Korte Beenhouwersstraat. Steek de Grasmarkt over en volg rechtdoor de Vlees-en-Broodstraat naar de Grote Markt.
