5 februari 1905 - L.P. Zocher, landschapsarchitect uit Haarlem, kreeg naar aanleiding van diverse overstromingen bij stormen de opdracht om een nieuw plantsoen in Engelse landschapstijl aan te leggen. De waterkerende functie van de stadwal in het Plantsoen werd versterkt door het verleggen van de Stadsgracht en het ophogen van de wal. Hierdoor moest er tussen het Galgenbolwerk en de Cellesbroederpoort een nieuw plantsoen komen.
Op de afbeelding loopt het park nog helemaal door tot aan de Buitenhaven.
