Deze kalsteenstrook beschermt het intramontane bekken van Iliakastro. Het intramontane bekken van Iliokastro heeft een opvallende vlakke basis met diep ontwikkelde bodems. Die bodems konden zich ontwikkelen in heel wat materiaal dat in dit bekken werd afgezet en niet werd geërodeerd. Het bekken wordt ten zuiden afgeschermd van eroderende rivieren door deze kalsteenstrook.
