Fort Sint-Jan was a fort near Trompwal between Kemzeke and Kapellebrug on the territory of the municipality of Stekene. The fort was part of the State-Spanish Lines.
Fort Sint-Jan was built in the aftermath of developments during the early years of the Eighty Years' War, when Ghent and Antwerp joined the Union of Utrecht in 1579. In 1583, the Staatsen had also breached the dikes at Saaftinge. In response, Parma had forts erected and a ship bridge built over the Scheldt, in order to prevent the supply of Antwerp. From Fort Sint-Jan the Parmavaart was dug to the flooded area. This ensured shipping connections to Ghent and Hulst.
