The Casino at the eponymous Casinoplein was founded in 1835/1836 by architect Louis Roelandt at the instigation of the Société d'Agriculture et de Botanique. It was built for the Ghent Floralies and was used for that purpose until 1908. Afterwards, the Floralies moved to the Festive and Floralies Palace. The Casino was used as a military hospital during World War I. From 1935 to 1945, the Veterinary School (the predecessor of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine) was housed there. In 1945, the building was ready for the demolition hammer.
