The site is located in western Hainaut, south of the city of Tournai, at the place called "Faubourg de Valenciennes." It is an old lime kiln built of limestone rubble, and its presence is linked to the many quarries that were once exploited in the region. Comprising 13 arches, two of which are locked, this construction proves particularly favorable for the hibernation of bats. Thus, during the years 2012 to 2016, no less than five species were recorded: Daubenton's bat (Myotis daubentonii), whiskered bat or Brandt's bat (Myotis mystacinus/brandtii), Natterer's bat (Myotis nattereri), frayed-eared bat (Myotis emarginatus), and common pipistrelle (Pipistrellus pipistrellus).
