It is at the Maison des Desserts , formerly Chocolaterie Fronville, where you should taste the famous Bietrumé de Namur . You will see it in the window.
This sweet was invented in the 1950s to accompany the many post-war festivities in Namur. It is a large soft caramel , butter or chocolate of 20 grams, filled with roasted hazelnuts , which is not easy to chew! Like the inhabitants of Namur, it is eaten slowly...
He was given the name of Bietrumé Picard , a well-known prankster from Namur, of whom it is not known whether he was real or imagined. In any case, the young Bietrumé, born in 1704, was known for making faces, imitating accents , faking his voice and playing tricks on the bourgeoisie. We don't know if he liked sweets, but he never refused a glass of keute (beer) and his life inspired several authors.
