Whether Germany is a beer country, or better: was! In the dark Middle Ages, the town of Einbeck had no less than 700 (seven hundred) breweries on its small territory. This is hard to believe, especially since only one remains. The famous Ainpock beer, as it was called, even provided 'beer and pleasure' all the way to Munich, and the Dukes of Bavaria had already let the golden Einbeck beer flow abundantly since 1533. Einbeck was a prosperous Hanseatic city. Later, this beer would become the well-known Bock beer. At that time, beer was brewed at home by people, which explains why there were so many small breweries. "The best drink that one knows is called Einbecker beer," thus it was spoken by Martin Luther at the Diet in Worms in the year 1521.
