The Teatro Cómico was an old wooden theater built at the beginning of the 19th century. Purchased in 1874 by the businessman Manuel García Lovera, owner of the Teatro de Variedades. He renamed the theater Teatro Principal. It was painted by José Serrano Bermúdez and decorated by the painter of the Salón Liceo del Círculo de la Amistad, José María Rodríguez Losada, and contained 21 lodges .
The theater was hit by a terrible fire on July 17, 1892. Under the municipal ordinances of 1888 , a new Teatro could not be built on the same site.
It was completely rebuilt a century later, at the end of the 20th century, to serve as a cultural space, exhibition space and temporary seat of the Eduardo Lucena Philharmonic Center. This preserves the eclectic facade , with four openings on each of the two existing floors.
