The city hall of The Hague is nicknamed Ice Palace due to its white color. It is also characterized by the atrium, the largest in the Netherlands, as spacious as the Piazza San Marco in Venice. The architect is the American Richard Meier. The design started in 1986. It was built between 1990 and 1995. The client for the construction is the ABP Pension Fund, with Wilma Bouw as the contractor. The construction costs amounted to €125 million, and the gross floor area is 131,000 m². The Public Library of The Hague is also located in the same building.
