Once known as Place du Marché in 1829, later Place Neuve , it was finally given its current name in the 19th century – inspired by the old dialect word erbe (vegetables/herbs).
This small square, nestled between Rue Saint-Michel and Rue des Marins, was once the village square for the vegetable and herb trade.
The shady plane trees , a small fountain called fontaine de la Mentonnaise in the middle, surrounded by stone benches and fringed by cozy café and restaurant terraces , make sure that this place breathes the Mediterranean atmosphere.
